Hampshire

Two months ago, we received a surprise invitation from my ex neighbour, Sue, to attend her housewarming and her partner's belated birthday party. It was a pleasant surprise indeed. As usual, that Saturday was a working day for me. I rushed back from work and got ready. Their gift was ready near the front door. The key word is near, not at the front door. We left home without it! By the time I realised it we were only 5 minutes away. With embarrassment, we attended the party empty-handed. Although I know they're genuine people who will just appreciate our presence, I wish we had not forgotten it.
As we walked though the garden gate, we were immediately greeted by a windy path with beautiful well-mixed garden shrubs on each side. Then there is this country-style kitchen which give a panoramic view of the garden. There was so much food and Peter kindly kept the barbecue going until we got there. Roast chickens, ham, burgers and lots of salad were served. I have to mention it was nice to have free flow of beer, wine and soft drinks. The party was on! By the way, nice apron, Peter. One of the best parts of the party was live music by talented James Deane. His voice was great and the way he played his guitar was spectacular as if the guitar was an extension of himself. Apparently he plays it by the ear. Now that's talent.
Later, Toby presented a beautifully made birthday cake to Peter. It was made by a friend of a friend. The theme was thoughtful and the details of were intricate. Did I forget to say it tasted good too? Needless to say we had too much cake.
The day ended with casual get-together around the fire pit. Sadly we missed John playing the saxophone as we had to leave early.
The evening was remarkable. Thank you Sue, Peter and Toby for having us in your gorgeous new home.
